In September "Rīgas satiksme" granted the right to use Riga public transport free of charge to 49 610 pupils, as well as issued 27 319 Pupil’s e-cards. To make the process easier, mobile customer service centres of "Rīgas satiksme" visited 126 Riga schools, where the right to free fare was granted to 23 668 pupils. The status entitling to fare reduction was also extended for 3555 teachers, as well as for 12 401 students and pupils of professional education institutions.

"Rīgas satiksme" reminds that to get the status entitling to free fare or fare reduction, a person needs a personalised e ticket or a Pupil’s e-card, an identity document, a reference from school or a valid pupil’s certificate, if the personal data are not included in the database of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of Riga City Council (if the pupil attends a school outside Riga). The status can be obtained in one of "Rīgas satiksme’s" customer service centres at Brīvības Street 191, Prāgas Street 1, Spīķeru Street 1, Brīvības Street 384b, Vienības gatve 76b, Kurzemes Avenue 137. The working hours of the customer service centres: 9.00-19.00 on workdays, 10.00-16.00 on Saturdays. The customer service centre at Spīķeru Street 1 is open on Sundays from 10.00 till 16.00.

The fare reduction is only valid in "Rīgas satiksme" buses, trams and trolleybuses (not in the night transport, Retro tram and minibuses).

Students can get fare reductions not only in mobile customer service centres, but also by means of information systems available at the University of Latvia, business higher school Turība, Riga Technical University and Latvian Musical academy of  Jāzeps Vītols.
